Another Account

Hello everyone (if there is anyone), I still haven't decided what I'm doing with this blog, so I'm adding ownership rights to one of my personal email accounts.

The account I use for "DragonOfFanfiction" is/was owned by my school, and may or may not be deleted over the summer, so I want to be on the safe side.

Anyway, if I continue posting, it will be under my other account name "Alexander Kirkland," just fyi.

Gakuen Hetalia & the Future of this Blog

So my school year is beginning to come to a close, and I don't know if I will decide to continue this blog afterward, so here is just a warning. I'll make a formal post later if I do decide to stop this blog.

... ... ...

Anyway, the Gakuen Hetalia, or literally translated to "Hetalia Academy," was quite the interesting development to me when it appeared in the anime. I believe it is based off of the game that was originally released in Japan, and is an AU outside of the anime's actual "story."

I find it quite odd that the creator would make a dating sim about it when the anime and manga were fairly new, and then be passionate enough about it to put it into the new seasons of the anime, though not odd in a bad way. It's interesting and quirky, but it bothers me that the game doesn't have an official translation (that I am aware of), so I couldn't play it.

Regardless, I'd like to see where Hidekaz Himaruya can take it and further the fandom with the implications of the dating sim.

The Mighty British Empire

Recently, since I've been researching the British Empire for a paper, my interest has peaked about the once-massive collection of states and territories. I found this interesting website where I will be getting most of my information.

Naturally, the British Empire began with England. I find it very interesting that it's classified from lasting from 1603 to 1949 on this site when most of my other sources regard it as still ongoing because of the British Commonwealth.

Its peak was in 1922, largely because empires are very expensive to maintain, and the British Empire, covering one fourth of the world's land area and population, starting running into financial trouble at the end of WWI.

It spanned 33,700,000 square kilometers (13,011,637 square miles) across all seven continents, controlling one fourth of the land area and one fourth of the population of the world at its height.

I hope this short history lesson was at least somewhat interesting.

Uniforms Throughout Hetalia

Considering Hetalia spans many different time periods, clothing and uniforms vary quite a bit. Here a few examples to discuss if anyone would like to. (click on images to enlarge them)

Russian Cursive

I read a Tumblr post last week (that I can not link here because of browsing restrictions) making fun of Russian cursive. I think it's quite amusing and will explain here.

The post starts out with this picture of Putin taking notes at President Obama's speech.

It appears that he is scribbling and not actually taking notes, but one member of Tumblr made the comment that perhaps he is writing in Russian cursive and just has poor handwriting,

I find this thought to be quite funny, mostly because of what Russian cursive looks like.

This is Russian cursive:

11 April 1954

I know I'm a bit late on this, considering it is the 26th, but I would still like to talk about this date because I find it fascinating.

In case you aren't aware, the 11th of April, 1954 was the day that nothing happened.

Wikipedia states that "This day is denoted as the most boring day in the 20th century by True Knowledge, an answer engine developed by William Tunstall-Pedoe. No significant newsworthy events, births, or deaths are known to have happened on this day."

This website and the CBS website elaborate a bit more on the subject if anyone is curious.

Though, I feel that CBS makes a good point in saying that "The irony is, though, that - having done the calculation - the day is interesting for being exceptionally boring."

I had believed that this day was the day that BBC declared there was no news and proceeded to play classical music, but upon research, this was a different day.

... ... ...

There's not much more I can say about the actual day, but as a fanfiction writer, I have the urge to believe that some sort of Doctor or nation shenanigans occurred on this date. Perhaps I'll write something on it eventually.

Anyway, feel free to tell me what you think about this, or any ideas of what might have happened~

Happy Birthday, Queen Elizabeth!

Today, if you were not aware, is the 90th birthday of Her Majesty, Queen Elizabeth II.

I think it's wonderful that she's still going, especially since she out-reigned Queen Victoria in September of last year.

Here's to another year!
